Community music
The Green note
The Green Note is a small organisation that runs community music through the streets of berkhamsted. Their venue is located in an upstairs room of a pub called the kings arms right on the Berkhamsted high street. They normally have gigs on the first thursday of every month and it usually consists of small local bands or bands around the county. They are above a pub so they are not aloud to have a full line up set up but only acoustic to keep levels down. The event is good for a wide range of ages from a little infant till you 100. its all aged aloud and is fun for all ages. The croud normally consists of all kinds of ages depending on the band playing at the time.
The venue normally start opening doors ar 7:45 and the first act on is usually on at 8. The set list normally consists of 3 bands each with hald an hour slots will an interval imbetween.
Many kinds of genres play there too but the kinds of bands that are normally chosen to play at the green note ar either acoustic, folf, or anything that isnt too heavy. This means you wouldnt have thrash mettle playing there. They try to keep the genres to an extent that everyone will enjoy rather then having opra or just heavy metal. This means they can pull a variety of different people and crouds to their event aiming to get as much people there as possible.
Bands that play there are normally quite small but within the county or countys around it are quite big sich as bands like 'The Big Sixes' who have played there a couple of times.
I myself and my band have played there before and the vibe we got from playing therer is really nice. Its really calm and the croud are always wanting to get involved. Even when we were only just starting up as a band we still managed to have a big croud purely because of the environment and the fact they have regular people who go there every first thursday.

The fact that thr venue is located above the pub is good because people who are
on a night out can have a nice drink and then head up to the events. The price
is low normally around £7 which is cheap and so its easy to get in. You would
normally see people from the pub going upstairs as the gig started. The pub and
venue are also located right in the centre of Berkhamsted high street which
means its good on the promotional side. They normally hand flyers to shops like
tesco and cafes like shake a shake and costa to give to customers and to hang up
in the window. This provides a wide opertunity in advertisement for this small
music community organisation. Being right in the centre of the high street is
also good because its really close to cafes, restaurents and houses lacated in
berkhamsted. Its also really easy to find and there is normally a poster located
on the Kings Arms pup directing you the stair case entrance of the venue.
The Organisation is run by a woman called Lynn. She is always there and normally organises other musical events such as the Berkhamsted battle of the bands. She has a lot of experience in this job as she has so many events that she runs. She normally has a team of sound enginers and the manager of the sound engeneer called Matt. in events he is the one who comes up the the musicians and asks what they want in terms of sound, he also tell the musicians what to do in terms of position on the floor based stage. Matt himself also does the sound on the battle of the bands in berkhamsted which is usually held in Berkhmsted girls school. Lyn and her daughter are the ones who contact the musicians in order for them to have a spot in playing at the Green Note.

Me : So how did you find the Green note? Did you enjoy the experience and the environment?
Bekki : I really enjoyed it yeah, was so good, i really like the environment and all the acts were so good! I also like the decoration of the place, was a really nice environment, i also found the use of space was really good, i could move around without bumping into other people.
Me : Ohh good! so how did you find the event from a musicians point of view?
Bekki : I found it very inspiring, when i watched you play guitar for the female vocalist, i could stop thinking about how good it must feel to have a live performer behind me rather then a backing track. The songs you also wrote also inspired me to write my own stuff, rather then just covers i do enjoy playing my own stuff a lot more after seeing you guys.
Me : Oh thanks, well thanks for this talk will see you later!
Bekki : Your welcome!
bury fields
Bury fields is a small festival held in the middle of chesham. The festival has two different music tents such as the main stage and the acoustic tent. This festival is held every year and gives the oppertunity for small bands to play infront of a croud. This is a great oppertunity for small artists solo or ensemble to play out they creative music and also get some inpiration from other bands playing there. Bury fields is a community event aimed at ages 5 till older ages around 70 and so is suitable for everyone. Famillis can come and have picknicks in the fields of bury fields, they have a chance to go to other tants around the fistival which includes face painting and other activities that you would normally see in a fair. The musical side of the festival for the locals is important. Because bury fields is a small community festival most of the bands that play are bands 'locally famous' and so gives a chance for people to meet them, get influences off them and also oppertunities to show bands like that their music. The festival runs throughout the day and normally progresses into the evening when it finishes around 10. The croud consist of different people such as families, teenagers, kids and old people.
Many kind of genres play at this festival but it mainly consists of folk music or indie bands. You would rarly hear a heavy metal or rock band playing there. There are also a lot of solo artists in this fesival normally playing at the acoustic tent. The festival is normally quite succesful due to this because they try and build up a fan base and locals who would com every year, for chesham this is a big event. I myself have played this festival in an acoustic tent and the atmophere is amazing. There wasnt a point in time when the tents wernt full, everyone was really into it and all tried getting to the front. Especially at the mainstage, its constantly full and the respone some of the acts got from the audience was increadibal especially for such a small community.

Bury fields is run by Martin Freeman. He is the one who organises the event, he also contacts all the artists directly or via social media aswell. Martin also runs other events such as several open mic nights and other events at bars and pubs. This is by far the biggest event he runs.
Because bury fields is located directly in the middle of chsham it is easy for everyone to get to, this is useful for promotional oppertunities because they are close to everyone who lives in chasham.
Bury Fields in the past has been a great success and in the past couple years has sold out completely. Not only was is successful for the people whatching but for the musicians. The whole sound system went well to plan and there were no faults the whole way through, this was due to good management and organisation.
Bury Fields provides a vast amount of oppertunites for musicians in the making to be inspired and to have an opertunity to perform in fron of a croud. This is because musical acts are playing througout the day till very late in the evening all with different voritys of genre. This means that people can be inspired to do something like that themselves. The envireonment is also amazing and its also a great place for the familys to get together for a lovely day out. There are normally a lot of families sat outside the mainstage tent having a picknick due to the successful weather for the past couple years and the environment of the area.

Me : So how did you guys find bury fields?
Mum and Dad : We really enjoyed it. The environment we got was terrific, there were a lot of other families that we met that day and we felt this was a great place to meet people and get involved in family and town events.
Me : how did you find the music side of it?
Mum and Dad : We really like the musical side to it, there was a lot of variation to the performances, mainly country but we also enjoyed the comedy and all the solo artists as well.
Me : Glad you enjoyed it, how did you find the arrangements of the event?
Mum and Dad : the arrangement of the festival was good, there was a lot of space for picnics for families, also a lot of space for stands. There were a lot of food stands as well which we really enjoyed!
