Intervals
An interval is the distance between two notes. Intervals are always counted from the lower note to the higher one, with the lower note being counted as one. Intervals come in diffedifferent sizes. If the notes are sounded successively, it is a melodic interval. If sounded simultaneously, then it is a harmonic interval. Intervals come in various sizes: Unisons, 2nds, 3rds, 6ths, and 7ths can be found as Major and Minor. Unisons, 4ths, 5ths, and Octaves are Perfect. When a major interval is raised by a half step, it becomes augmented. When a major interval is lowered by a half step, it becomes minor. When a major interval is lowered by two half
steps, it becomes diminished.
When a minor interval is raised by a half step, it becomes major. When a minor interval is raised by two half steps, it becomes augmented. When a minor interval is lowered by half step, it becomes diminished.

There are four types of minor intervals as well as there being four types of major intervals. They are; minor 2nd, minor 3rd, minor 6th and minor 7th. In a minor 2nd interval there is one semitone. In a minor 3rd interval there are three semitones. In a minor 6th interval there are eight semitones and in a minor 7th interval there are ten semitones.

In a major 6th interval there are nine semitones and in a major 7th interval there are 11. All of these intervals are simple intervals because they are all within one octave.
There are four types of perfect intervals. They are; unison, perfect 4th, perfect 5th and perfect octave. There are no semitones in a perfect unison because it is the same note, hence the name ‘unison’. In a perfect 4th there are five semitones. In a perfect 5th there are seven semitones. In a perfect octave there are 12 semitones. Anything above a perfect octave would be a compound interval.
Pitches
tones:
A tone is the same as two semitones. It is the second smallest interval used in music. When played on a guitar a tone it is two frets, for example 3-5.
semi-tones:
A semitone is half a tone. When played on guitar it is one fret for example 1-2 A semitone is the smallest interval used in music. It goes up or down half a note. G to Gsharp.
A scale is just a collection of tones selected from these 12 chromatic tones. Usually, the tones in a scale are no more than 2 (or occasionally 3) half-steps apart; otherwise it doesn't "sound like a scale". Some scales are much more popular than others, and these popular scales have names.

There a total of 12 different pitches in the chromatic scale as shown in the picture.
This is the scare or a grade 8 bass book and the song is called Meet Darth Ear which is a hard rock song. I annotated this score showing the different pitches, time signatures. In the first part of the song the notes used are F, G, F ,E, F G, Bb. These sets of pitches were all used because they are all in the same minor scale of E.
This is a score from a classical guitar piece called Drifting. I wrote down on this score to try and show the intervals in this certain page of this song. This mainly consisted of 8ths 5ths and 4ths
This is a score off a piano piece called Bilitis and here i have shown the intervals included on this page of the score.
i also worked in my Dorothy Dingle pass grade 5 book and did part of the pitches section section.
